There are missions that begin with ambition, and there are those that begin with pain and purpose. The story of Haji Abdul Majid Memorial (HAMM) Hospital & Research Centre is not just one of bricks and mortar; it is a story of sacrifice, compassion, and the relentless pursuit of healing. It was not built for power, prestige, or profit—it was built to wipe the tears of the suffering, to give strength to the weak, and to bring dignity to those who had none.
My beloved father, Late Haji Ajmal Ali Sahib (RA), was a man whose wealth lay not in what he owned, but in what he gave. He lived for others—for the poor, the sick, the forgotten. He believed that if Almighty blesses you with more than you need, you must become a source of comfort for others. That belief is what built Ajmal CSR, HAMM Hospital, and every charitable endeavor we stand by today.
It all began in 1986, when a small dispensary was set up in Hojai to provide free medicines and treatment to those who could not afford even basic healthcare. But pain cannot be treated in fragments, and suffering cannot wait for convenience.
The need was overwhelming, and the vision grew. Against all odds, on 16th September 1995, HAMM Hospital was inaugurated—not by a politician or a businessman, but by Mother Teresa herself, a woman whose life embodied the very spirit of this institution. From that day, the mission was clear—no one would be asked if they could afford treatment, only what they needed to heal.
After the passing of our beloved father, Late Haji Ajmal Ali Sahib (RA), the responsibility of overseeing this institution was taken up by our eldest brother, Mr. Amiruddin Ajmal, Chairman of Ajmal Group of Companies. Under his leadership, I, along with my brother Mohammed Sirajuddin Ajmal, have been actively involved in managing the hospital's operations, ensuring that his vision of compassionate and quality healthcare continues to thrive. Today, HAMM Hospital is not just a medical facility; it is a sanctuary for thousands across Assam and beyond. It stands as a promise that no father will watch his child suffer helplessly, no mother will be turned away in her hour of need. But a single hospital was never enough. The suffering of people stretched beyond Hojai, and so did our responsibility. This led to the establishment of: Al Salam Hospital (Goalpara), AWHAQ Hospital (Moirabari), and Badarpur Hospital (Malua, Badarpur). We have also established a Nursing school, giving young women the power to serve, uplift, and carry forward the sacred duty of caregiving. Further, the establishment of postgraduate medical courses (DNBE) in HAMM Hospital is a significant milestone, and will surely contribute to the future of healthcare education and professional excellence. This mission is far greater than any individual. It stands on the shoulders of me and my brothers—along with our selfless doctors, dedicated nurses, devoted staff, and countless well-wishers. Their tireless efforts make this dream a reality every single day. This is not just about running hospitals; it is about honoring the responsibility Almighty has given us—to be the hands that heal, the voices that comfort, and the hope that never fades. This is not just the dream of one man, nor is it the effort of a single family. It is a movement, a shared responsibility, a testament to what happens when compassion leads the way. There is still much to do, and with Almighty’s grace, we will continue to serve, to heal, and to give. May HAMM Hospital remain a sanctuary of care, compassion, and dignity for all. May this journey always be blessed and may no one in need ever leave without hope.
