HAMM Hospital & Research Center is a premier healthcare organization of North-East India. It is centrally located in the heart of the Hojai Town. The hospital has maintained a constant growth in all disciplines of contemporary medical science. The HAMM Hospital was born out of a dream that our founder Haji Ajmal Ali Sahib had when he saw the plight of his community at Hojai and the people of Assam.
ABOUT FOUNDER |
Our Founder was born in a marginal farmer family of Haji Abdul Majid Sahib in 1923 and hailed from a small hamlet near Hojai in Nagaon district of Central Assam. It was in the 1950s that our Founder ventured into a new world, far from his native place, Assam, and started selling agar wood to a friend in Mumbai, who used it to make perfume. Soon, he joined his friend and set up his first shop-- Al-Hafiz Traders at Nagdevi Street, across Mumbai's famous Muhammad Ali Road and Crawford Market. There has been no looking back since that early beginning.
The 85-year-old Haji Ajmal Ali Sahib, whose five sons expanded his original business in herbal perfumes into a global network with over 500 outlets, have their regional headquarters in Mumbai, Dubai, Jeddah and Hojai.
Today Ajmal Group is a well-established and trusted business house with thousands of people working in factories and showrooms in India and abroad. The second generation of the Ajmal family have leveraged their business strengths and expanded into other businesses such as garments, leather goods, medications, cosmetics and real-estate, but business has been just one part of our Founders life. He used his business acumen for creating a social vision that embraces the marginalized and deprived in a charitable dispensation toward social responsibility.
A dispensary started by Haji Ajmal Ali Sahib in 1986 at Hojai in one of the remotest parts of Assam for distribution of free medicines to poor patients burgeoned into a hospital with modern facilities. It was later inaugurated by Her Holiness Mother Teresa and the late Union Minister Rajesh Pilot on 16th September 1995, and bears the name of Haji Abdul Majid Memorial (HAMM) Hospital and Research Center.
This hospital is one of the most modern rural hospitals in the country and some even consider it one among other most advanced rural hospitals in the South-East Asian region. Almost 100 per cent of its high-tech care goes to the most deprived sections of society with marginal payments.
So far nearly 1.5 million people, including pregnant women, old peasants and ill-nourished children have benefited from the charitable hospital. While some charitable hospitals in urban centers are so in name only, our Founder ensured that over 80 percent of the hospital’s services would be provided free of cost to the poor who are in no condition to pay for their costly tests, diagnosis and super-specialty treatment.
